About a month ago I managed to finally organize birthday trip to Africa for my wife. I made a promise that I will take her to Victoria Falls back in 2020, but … as you can imagine, we were unable to travel there from Europe due to well-known COVID-19 restrictions. Finally, once the world got opened again, on May 2nd we boarded our Lufthansa Jumbo and flew to Johannesburg to catch South African Airways onward connection to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Over the next week we spent amazing time in Africa enjoying the nature and local hospitality. Even though it was not our first visit to this continent, definitely it was most memorable for the time being.
As explained above, plane spotting wasn’t the main purpose of this trip. Nevertheless, as my wife understands my hobby, I had a chance to take a few shots on our way back from Zimbabwe to Poland. Once we have completed check-in formalities in Victoria Falls airport and after passing security and immigration, I took the opportunity to catch few planes seen from international gates. My catch of the day was FastJet Zimbabwe Embraer 120 Brasilia which operates domestic flights within the country. However, also regret that a few Cessnas 208 placed in front of the domestic terminal were beyond my shooting range.
Having arrived to Johannesburg in the afternoon, I was not pleasantly surprised by rainy weather that crashed my plans for spotting on that day (no wonder – it was already early fall in South Africa). Luckily next morning the sun returned to African sky and after check-out from the hotel we went to the airport where I had a chance to execute the hobby - first at the domestic and afterwards at the international plane viewing decks. As we were supposed to depart back home that evening and due to some clouds around, I didn’t take too many shots, but finally managed to catch some local traffic – including my favorite Air Botswana ATR 72.
